Reasons for Hair Loss


There are two stages in the normal cycle of hair growth. Majority of the hair will be in the growing stage while some might be in the resting stage. So it is normal to shed some hair each day as part of this cycle and new hair will generally start growing in that place. However, there might be some excessive hair loss in some persons which is an early indication of hair loss. There are many causes or reasons for this hair loss. Lets take a look at some of them.

Causes or Reasons for Hair Loss


1). Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens respectively, are out of balance. This type of hair loss can be treated by Correcting the hormone imbalance.

2). Hair loss may be due to thyroid gland which is either overactive or underactive. This type of hair loss can be handled by treatment for thyroid disease.

3). Illness and some health problems may cause hair loss. Normally after 2-3 months of illness or major surgery a sudden increase in hair loss can be observed. This type of hair loss is temporary.

4). Certain infections like fungal infection of the scalp can cause hair loss. This type of infection can be easily treated with antifungal medicines.

5). The reason for Hair loss may be due to an underlying disease, such as diabetes or lupus. Since This is an early indication of a disease, it can be treated once it is found.

6). Some types of medicines which are used for high blood pressure, heart problems, gout, birth control pills and antidepressants can cause hair loss.

7). Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones. During pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts again.
